Japanese electronics giant Sony has agreed to sell its stake in a joint liquid crystal display panel venture in South Korea to its partner, Samsung Electronics, the two companies said on Monday.
Samsung will acquire all of Sony's stake in S-LCD Corp, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of the Korean company, they said in a statement.
The Asian electronics giants have worked together since the 1990s in the semiconductor and LCD fields.
They established S-LCD in South Korea in 2004 to jointly produce LCD panels mainly used for televisions. Samsung had a stake of 50 per cent plus one share, with Sony holding the remainder.
For its share transfer, which will close by the end of January, Sony will receive 1.08 trillion won ($A930 million), the statement said.
Sony is increasingly relying on other manufacturers for the key TV component as LCD panel prices continue to slide due to a supply glut.
The two companies have also agreed to enter into a new strategic agreement for the supply and purchase of LCD panels.
The new deal will help Sony secure a "flexible and steady supply" of LCD panels, based on market prices and without the cost of operating a manufacturing facility, the statement said.
Samsung expects "heightened flexibility, speed and efficiency in both panel production and business operations", it said.

Christmas 2011 came and went without a new iPad, but if you're still thinking of getting yourself a new tablet at after-Christmas sales, check out the Acer Iconia A500 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Both are 10-inch Android powered tablets, but the Iconia is cheaper by $100. While Acer has a reputation for building inexpensive yet middling laptops, their venture into the tablet world is a chance for them to put their stamp on a still very new sector. Samsung on the other hand is the big dog on the tablet block next to Apple, and their prices reflect it.
The A500 is a 16 gigabyte tablet with cameras on front and back, good resolution, full-size USB and mini HDMI ports and average battery life. It should also get the Android 4.0 update in early 2012. Galaxy Tab 10.1 is also a 16 gigabyte device, but it has a bit better of a camera than the Iconia A500, is a bit lighter and could get the Android 4.0 update even sooner. That's because Samsung is the company that built the Galaxy Nexus smartphone for Google, so they might get the first shot at updating their tablets as well.
Both devices are available in 32 gigabyte versions, and the Iconia A500 also comes in an AT&T supported 4G version. One major difference is in the software. Samsung adds their TouchWiz software to the Android system and the Iconia A500 is more of a stock Android interface. Additionally, Samsung uses plastic throughout the Galaxy Tab build, and some people don't like the feel because they think it's cheaply made. The A500 is made with brushed aluminum on the back, and while it feels and looks nice, it does add weight. Acer may not have made a tablet with the best battery or cameras, but if you can look past that, the much lower price compared to the Galaxy Tab makes it the recommended buy. Tell us in the comments if you're still?shopping for that perfect tablet. ?

Samir Brikho heads Amec PLC, a London, England-based engineering and consulting giant that, in its operating focus, is about as Canadian as oil sands and potash. Amec?s engineering services for oil sands and potash projects are a major factor in generating Canadian revenue of about $1.5-billion a year, and a Canadian work force of 7,000 (including 2,600 in Alberta).
Mr. Brikho, 53, is a Lebanese-born, Swedish-trained engineer with a travel schedule that would crush lesser mortals. He landed in Calgary recently to talk about the changing U.S. energy landscape and what it means for price-challenged Canadian natural gas in 2012 and beyond.
Is Amec a Canadian or British company?
Thirty per cent of our worldwide revenues come out of Canada, so, in a way, we are both British and Canadian. In the past few years, we have transformed the company by concentrating on four markets ? oil and gas; metals and minerals; clean power technologies; environment and infrastructure, with water as the driver there. Despite our divestments [from construction and other non-core businesses], we have also been making a lot of investments in Canada. We are more profitable than average in Canada, and this is the only country in which we do everything [in all of Amec?s targeted sectors.]
You are heavily involved in the Alberta oil sands. Are you alarmed by the delay of the Keystone XL pipeline to the U.S. Gulf Coast?
Keystone XL has been a great opportunity for Canada to export its resources to the United States, but we have started to see a big change in the U.S. ? because of new energy technology, and how Americans are taking a different view from what their Canadian brothers would like to see. Was it right or wrong to [defer the decision on] the project? We will know perhaps in 30 years.
Where does this leave Canada?
Let?s talk about natural gas. All the exports of Canadian gas go to one country: the U.S. For four consecutive years, we have seen that gas production in Canada has been declining because of [shrinking] demand in the U.S. It?s because of shale-gas possibilities in that country. It is possible that the U.S. in 10 years will be totally self-sustaining and could be a net exporter of gas, rather than an importer. So for Canada, the game has changed.
If that?s the case, why this focus on gas?
Gas is interesting because it has abundant reserves; it is attractive from an environmental point of view. I?m not saying this is the best fuel we have, but it is definitely the cleanest compared with other fossil fuels. If we installed today a combined-cycle power plant [fired by natural gas], you would be having half the carbon emissions as in a coal-fired plant. So the U.S. can meet its own aspirations on emissions just by shifting [the balance in power generation]. In 15 years, it would not be impossible for the Americans to meet their high standards in terms of low emissions.
So what do we have to do in Canada?
We need to start looking at what is happening in Asia. The market is going to be Asia and no longer in the U.S. Take China, which is consuming 16.5 billion cubic metres of gas a year; the International Energy Agency anticipates it will consume 210 billion by the year 2035, about 13 times the current level. That presents us with an enormous opportunity.
And who are the suppliers of gas to China? Fifty per cent now comes from Australia and therefore Australia is building liquefied natural gas plants [with export capability]; in five years they will have 10 plants. Right now in Canada, we are building three plants. It is not going to be as big here as in Australia, but we still need to be in that game.
So gas is abundant, affordable and acceptable environmentally ? what I call the three As ? and they can put Canada back in the game, even all the discussion about the oil sands.
So Canada should be alert to the potential of gas even at today?s low prices?
In terms of the ?three As,? gas at the current stage ticks all the boxes, while oil sands at the moment is not ticking all the boxes ? I?m not writing off the oil sands by any means, because I think there will be a technological breakthrough where we will be able to improve our carbon and water footprint. The oil sands present a great opportunity still. And after what happened with Keystone XL, the energy agendas of Alberta and Ottawa are being aligned more than ever.

From part 6 of this video:
?The true objective of what?s going on today is the establishment of a one-world government, a new-world-economic order, and a new-world spirituality.
And behind everything that is transpiring today are dark and sinister, spiritual forces. Indeed, we are engaged in a spiritual battle.
If you read Ephesians 6:12, you?ll find this reference:
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Ladies and gentlemen, the forces that control the Council of Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderbergers, and the Masonic movement, and the Skull and Bones society, and the Federal Reserve board and the central banks of the world are joined together in a continuity of evil.?

[1 of 6] The Best Enemies Money Can Buy ? Dr. Antony Sutton
Uploaded by AlanWattResistance on Oct 6, 2011
A classic interview by Professor Antony Sutton, who taught economics at California State University, and was a research fellow at Stanford University?s Hoover Institution.
In this talk, Prof. Sutton goes into his impeccable research on how a close-knit group of Western financiers and industrialists (centered around Morgan and Rockefeller in the US, and around Milner and the City financiers, in the UK) created and sustained their three supposed enemies right from the very beginning: Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany, and FDR?s Fabian socialism.
Particularly, he goes into how Wall Street/City of London financiers used their banking institutions and their industrial enterprises to:
1) Help finance and sustain the Bolshevik Revolution. Build up Soviet industry during Lenin?s Five-Year Plans, both through finance, technology/industrial transfers and technical assistance. Continue to build the Soviets throughout the entire Cold War, through the same kinds of deals. This included the Korea and the Vietnam eras, during which American troops were being killed by? Western-made Soviet equipment.
2) Build up Nazi Germany, both financially and industrially;
3) Get FDR into power in America as their man, and even draw up the New Deal policies, especially FDR?s National Recovery Act ? designed by Gerard Swopes of General Electric and deeply welcomed by Wall Streeters Morgan, Warburg and Rockefeller.
Sutton was not a wild speculator. He was a distinguished academic researcher who documented his conclusions impeccably in his several works. Not being able to counter his research, the establishment (including academia) simply attempts to ignore it, and pretend it isn?t there.
The purpose for these Wall Street policies was very simple: to create, and globalize, what Sutton calls Corporate Socialism. A system under which everything in society is ruled by the state, and the state is, in its stead, controlled by financiers who, hence, get to rule and manage society, to their liking. In other words, to get society to work for the financiers, using a socialist state as an intermediary.
This is what we now know as the globalization economic model. As a result of all the clashes of the 20th century, most notably WWII and the Cold War (fought between powers that were manipulated and controlled by these banker cliques), the world has been ?globalized?. Meaning that it has been entirely taken over by these financiers, and is ever closer to being completely ruled by them, through not only the national states and national central banking systems, but mainly through supranational agencies and institutions.
Go into Professor Sutton?s books, most notably the Hoover Institute?s series on Western technological/industrial transfers to the Soviets and the ?Wall Street? trilogy. If you have a difficulty in purchasing the original books, you?ll find most of them are easily available online, on pdf form.

A truly jumbo shrimp is causing big worries about the future of the Gulf of Mexico's ecosystem.
The Asian tiger prawn, a foot-long crustacean with a voracious appetite and a proclivity for disease, has invaded the northern Gulf, threatening prized native species, from crabs and oysters to smaller brown and white shrimp.
Though no one is sure what the ecological impact will be, scientists fear a tiger prawn takeover could knock nature's balance out of whack and turn a healthy, diverse marine habitat into one dominated by a single invasive species.
"It has the potential to be real ugly," said Leslie Hartman, Matagorda Bay ecoystem leader for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. "But we just do not know."
The tiger prawns from the western Pacific - which can grow up to 13 inches long - have been spreading along the Gulf Coast since 2006, but their numbers took off this year. Shrimpers pulled one from Texas waters for the first time in June.
In all, shrimpers have found three tiger prawns in Aransas Bay, one in Sabine Lake near the Louisiana border and one in Gulf waters about 70 miles from Freeport, according to the Texas Sea Grant program at Texas A&M University.
Marine scientists will conduct genetic studies on the shrimp to determine their origin. Hartman said they will need at least 60 prawns for an accurate analysis.
Several theories
Some speculate that the Gulf invasion began with an accidental release of farmed prawns in South Carolina in 1988. Another theory: The prawns may have escaped from flooded industrial shrimp ponds in the Caribbean Sea during recent hurricanes.
The threat underscores concerns about large-scale fish farming, also known as aquaculture, in the Gulf. The federal government opened the waters to fish farms in 2009 despite fears from environmental and fishing interests over how to protect wild stocks.
Disease normally would exist in relatively low levels in fish around the Gulf but can run rampant in densely packed fish farms. Tiger prawns are a known carrier of at least 16 viruses, such as white spot, which can be lethal to shrimp.
The Gulf policy calls for only native species to be farmed, but it does not have the force of law, said George Leonard, who leads the Ocean Conservancy's aquaculture program.
"We need to be really, really cautious," Leonard said. "There has to be rules and regulations."
No farming of species
Texas allows industrial-scale shrimp ponds, but requires permits for the cultivation of non-native species. No one in the state is farming tiger prawns, said Tony Reisinger, a marine and coastal resources expert for the Texas Sea Grant program.
Marine scientists have yet to find any juvenile tiger prawns in Texas waters, a sign that the species is breeding. It is a difficult assignment because they look similar to native white shrimp at a young age.
Tiger prawns weigh more than a half-pound and have distinctive black and white stripes on the tail. They eat the same types of food as native shrimp species, but also prey on their smaller cousins, as well as crabs and young oysters.
"It's a large, competitive species," Reisinger said.
It's also tasty, fetching a higher market price than native brown shrimp on the New York market this month.
Some shrimpers have wondered if the large prawns could become the fourth harvestable shrimp species off the Texas coast.
Hartman, of Texas Parks and Wildlife, is skeptical.
"It could be another crop, but at the expense of our native crop," she said.
